From the Journal of Toxicology comes some interesting answers. An experiment was done using human plasma (the liquid part of the blood without the blood cells) to see what chelator would be most effective in removing mercury. Ten different chelators were tested using a dialysis machine. Without any chelators NO mercury was removed from the plasma. The commonly used chelator DMPS was not effective in removing mercury.
