This week: What mineral is essential for thyroid function and to keep viral infections at bay? Are Zoloft and Prozac making you susceptible for bone fractures? Is organic going corporate? Could just two daily doses of this supplement give you peace of mind?

Most Important Health Question?
Are you wondering if your energy and health could be improved? Whether you could feel better? Do you find it difficult to eat the way you know you should?
Do you wonder if you are getting all the nutrients your body really needs to preserve your health?
These are appropriate questions for anyone to ask. You are not alone in wondering about them. It was exactly these questions that I was asking myself when I thought, perhaps there is a way to ensure I was getting at least the minimum of essential nutrients.

What important mineral might you be missing?
What essential mineral is needed for thyroid health and for detoxification and for fighting viral infections? It is also an antioxidant and can help move toxic mercury out of the body.
Know what it is?
Selenium.
It is a trace mineral and essential to human health. But the amount in foods (liver and nuts have the most) depends on the soil that the food was grown in. If the soil is depleted than the content will be low. There are whole geographic regions in the world that have selenium depleted soil and the people suffer from deficiencies of it. This is especially true in China where a rare form of heart disease is caused by this deficiency.

However, five months ago, when new and major breakdowns occurred — severe intestinal problems, daily fatigue, and then major hair loss — I turned to Life Works Wellness Center and poured out the list of my symptoms to Dr. George Springer. Thanks to his wise evaluation and the regimen of natural supplements he prescribed for me, after only four months, I feel that my aging process has reversed itself!

According to Dr. David Goltzman of McGill University the research suggested that these drugs have a direct effect on bone cells causing them to decrease bone strength and size and thus lead to fracture.

Is Organic Going Corporate?
When I think of organic, I usually think of small individual farmers, working their land and bringing their goods to the local farmers market. In actuality the family farm most likely got bought out by one of the big boys a long time ago. While organic is only 2.5% of the total food market it is the fastest growing sector. Sales are greater than $14 billion per year. The big chain supermarkets sell more than half of all the organic food and with Wal-Mart coming on it will increase even more.
