The Mass Media and the Flu Hysteria
Did you get your flu vaccine? Worried that you didn't? Want some insight into
why you may be glad you missed it?
This report is eye opening. You'll want to read the whole article.
Personally I don't get flu vaccines and I don't recommend them for many
of the reasons Dr. Tenpenny discusses. Read this and make up your own
mind. - David I. Minkoff, MD read

Predicting Prostate Cancer
"Each year, over 1 million men will have pieces snipped from their prostate gland.
Biopsies carry a small risk of infection and bleeding and cost more than $700
a piece. But according to urologic oncologist Mark Garzotto, M.D., "The vast
majority of men who undergo a biopsy do so unnecessarily." In fact, only 25%
of those biopsied have cancer. Perhaps their is a more rational approach to a
high PSA? Our own experience is that with a holistic program of nutrition and
detoxification, most of the elevated PSA's can be normalized without invasive
proceedures or treatments. - Minkoff, MD read

Not-So-Public Relations
As one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, Lilly had a problem.
Their new antibiotic, Xigris, was supposed to be blockbuster drug. But it
wasn't selling. Usual antibiotics in the hospital are $50 per day. This drug
is $6800 per dose! Hospitals weren't buying. Look what they're doing about
it. Do you agree? - David I. Minkoff, MD read

Drug firms fund disease awareness
Pharmaceutical companies are pouring millions of dollars into patient advocacy
groups and medical organisations to help expand markets for their products.
They are also using sponsorships and educational grants to fund disease-awareness
campaigns that urge people to see their doctors. Many groups have become
largely or totally reliant on pharmaceutical industry money, prompting concerns
they are open to pressure from companies pushing their products."
I find this fascinating. Here is the formula: Notice a problem. Find
a drug that will block symptoms of the problem but not fix it. Then
create an advocacy group of concerned citizens who are effected by the
problem. Pump a lot of moneyand infromation into that advocacy group
with materials that say your drug is the answer to the problem. The
group will then find more people with the problem and market the drug
for you, and defend you against anyone who says "but the drug isn't
really helping to solve the problem."
Could this be done with common sense nutrition??? - David I. Minkoff, MD

85% of Prescriptions Never Refilled
While I don't agree with the new Medicare drug law. Buried in the 1200 pages
of text is Did you know that 20% of prescriptions are never filled? And,
85% are never refilled? Even with that over 106,000 people die a year of
adverse reactions to prescripton drugs in U.S. hospitals. No telling how
many others succomb. Prescription drugs are not to be taken lightly. From
the article it seems that most people's experience agrees with that.
Whether its the cost, or how the drugs make them feel, people reject
them. Must be some wisdom here. The best solution is usually the basics:
1. Organic whole foods
2. Daily exercise and sunshine
3. Adequate sleep.
4. Purposeful work
5. Service to others
6. Pursuit of one's spiritual self and creator.
