Could Scars Be Affecting Your Health?

Did you ever think that scars could be affecting your health?

What?

Yes, we've all got them. From ear piercing to appendectomy scars, they might just be affecting how well your body functions -- or doesn't.

We know that the body controls itself through very tiny electrical current flows. These flows go from the brain to every organ and back. The flows may be transmitted through nerves, or they may be transmitted through tiny light emissions from cell to cell. The nerve communications are relatively slow. The second method is very fast (similar to the speed of light).

If there is a scar in the skin or deeper, nerve cell fibers may have been injured and thereafter will have a block in their ability to transfer communication.

These blockages can be detected using a specific type of applied kinesiology called Autonomic Reflex Testing that is done at Lifeworks Wellness Center and other clinics. When we find an area of blocked nerve flow, we see an area around it that we call an "interference field." The interference field means that the nerve flow is being interfered with by the scar.

Very often, the scar itself does not produce any symptoms, though it may be numb or sensitive to touch. Unfortunately, when the nerve flow is blocked by the scar, another part of the body may suffer a symptom because of that blocked nerve flow.

For example, right hip pain can occur after a gall bladder operation. The hip appears normal on X-ray, but it is painful. The scar from the operation has produced an interference field that blocks nerve flow and results in the hip being painful.

We had one patient who came in with high blood pressure, obesity, and an inability to sweat. After we treated her C Section scar (from 14 years ago), she began to sweat again, lost 60 pounds without change in diet, and her blood pressure returned to normal. The effects of scar treatment can be impressive.

What we know is that if we treat the scar, the interference field can be opened up, and cease to cause a problem. As in the case of the gall bladder scar, the hip pain would cease.

Sometimes the interference field is not from a scar, but from a localized inflammation or infection. We have seen cases where a root canal tooth caused chronic back pain. When the tooth was pulled, the interference with the nerve channel was unblocked, and the back pain ceased.

This is not something your G.P. has probably ever heard of, but believe me it may be affecting your health. If you have scars, it would be a good idea to get yourself checked to see if they are creating any interference fields. This is easily treated and could mean the difference between optimal function and just getting along. -- D.I. Minkoff, MD
