Going organic can shield children from pesticides
“Switching to organic foods provides children ‘dramatic and immediate’ protection from pesticides that are widely used on a variety of crops, according to a study by a team of federally funded scientists.”
The amounts of two organophosphate pesticides, malathion and chlorpyrifos, in the urine of elementary school children reduced substantially in just 5 days when they ate organic produce instead of conventional.
More than 2,000,000 pounds of these insecticides are applied annually in California.
When eating organic foods the average level of malathion was zero. When eating the conventional diet, the levels averages 160% higher. One child’s levels were 263 parts per billion!
For chlorpyrifos, the conventional diets had urine levels that were 5 times higher than when the children ate organic produce.
The conclusion of the researchers was: “we were able to demonstrate that an organic diet provides a dramatic and immediate protective effect against exposure to organophosphorus pesticides that recommonly used in agriculture production.
Those non organic foods with the highest levels of pesticides are peaches, apples, pears, grapes, green beans, spinach, winter squash, strawberries, and cantaloupe. Those with less residues are bananas, broccoli, canned peaches, canned or frozen peas, canned or frozen corn, milk, orange juice, and grape juice.
Pesticides kill insects. They damage their nervous systems. They are not good for us in any amounts. Avoid them.
Moral of the story:
1. Eat organic. The regular produce, meat, and poultry is full of things that are not good for us.
2. Drink pure water.
3. Use BodyDetox to help your body move the bad stuff out.
