Have you been misled into thinking that whey and soy are quality proteins? Here’s the real scoop.
In a study in the Journal of the American Medical Association the researchers compared the effects of (1) a low fat diet, versus (2) a statin drug + a low fat diet versus (3) a diet that included foods that were high in fiber and plant sterols. Here are the results:
In the low fat diet the cholesterol reduced by 8%.
On the drug Lovastatin plus low fat diet the reduction was 30%.
Those on high fiber and plant sterols reduced cholesterol by 28%!
They also looked at C reactive protein (CRP). This is an indicator of inflammation in the body and is correlated with vascular disease.
Low fat diet reduced CRP by 10%. The drug by 33%, the plant sterol and fiber diet by 28%.
There are significant risks to Lovastatin like liver disease, memory loss, cancer, muscle injury, and death, all in addition to the great expense. Last year $12 billion was spent on these drugs.
Why not add the following foods to your diet that are rich in plant sterols and fiber?Avocado, olive oil, olives, walnuts, almonds, flaxseed, okra, soy protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, and eggplant.
Chances are that your cholesterol can reduce by as much as 28% and you won’t need any medication.
