Greetings! When I was in high school,
I was fascinated with the ancient Vedic writings. These
were written by Indian sages over 4000 years ago.
One of the important concepts written about is
the cycle of life. Create-survive-destroy. When applied
to a body, this becomes conception (creation of the
body with the union of the sperm and egg), then survival,
the time one has to live, and then death when the
body is destroyed. Looking more closely at the
survival part of the cycle, one sees that this has two
aspects: how long will one live and how much pain or
pleasure does one have while he is living.
At first glance, survive seems to be neither
creation or destruction, but something unique. But if
we look at it, body survival, both in terms of
length of life and quality of life, we see that
either we are building up the body (creating) or
destroying it. There is no neutral. If one wants
to survive to maximum life span and maximum health,
one must keep seeing the body as a creation in progress,
minute to minute and hour to hour. So survival
would then be made up of actions that create the
body over and over again. What does
one do to create a body? What does one do to destroy
a body? As a biological system we can easily answer
that question. Does organic food create or
destroy? Does good sleep create or destroy? Do chemicals,
heavy metals, pesticides, create or destroy?
As I thought about this, it occurred to me that
one could always pose this question when making
decisions about body health. Will this food, this
activity, be a creative or destructive to my
body?
If one can look at things this way, the choices
become black and white and very simple. To a large
extent, the pleasure of optimum health is achieved
by choosing for oneself a lifestyle that creates
life.
It's a new year. Make creative choices! Hope
you enjoy this issue! Please pass along to friends if
you do.
Blessings!
