| Clues and Facts about being hypothyroid
At the base of your neck is a small gland about the size of a walnut with half on one side of the wind pipe and half on the other side. This gland, among other things, controls the metabolism of the body. Metabolism is the burn rate of calories. When the burn rate is too low, all the cell processes are slowed down. Everything from mental sluggishness to obesity result. If turned up too high, a virtual firestorm occurs in the body - fever, manic mood, racing heart. Of course, there is an ideal rate and the thyroid, in coordination with the pituitary gland, should keep one normal. That is unless the thyroid cannot balance things the way it should. This can occur from a number of causes. Those causes fall in three general categories.
- Toxins affecting the gland
- Deficiency of a nutrient that the gland needs
- Allergens that affect the function of the gland
The toxin category is most commonly made up of drugs, environmental chemicals, metals and pesticides. For example, Prozac, and other compounds that contain fluoride, like toothpaste, certain antibiotics, and the new sweetener Sucralose can interfere with iodine, which is needed for thyroid hormone.
Other compounds like mercury, lead, cadmium, PCBs, dioxins, pthalates (plasticizers), andmolds all can damage thyroid function. The other toxin category which can affect thyroid function is from root canal toxin. These toxins leave the jaw bone by gravity and travel through lymph channels to the thyroid. Root canal toxins are manufactured by the bacteria that live in the dead tooth after the root canal has been done. These bacteria produce harmful toxins that can block thyroid function.
Zinc, iodine, selenium, magnesium are all crucial for thyroid hormone synthesis. Since processed foods are often very deficient in these minerals, many people can become deficient easily.
Another factor not commonly appreciated is that a protein deficient diet will cause the thyroid to become less active so that it turns the burn rate down.
Essential fats are also important in proper thyroid membrane function so a proper balance of omega 3 and omega 6 oils are important.
What can one do to improve thyroid function?
- Avoid the toxins.
- If you have root canals, see a Biological Dentist to make sure they are not leaking bacteria.
- Eat organic foods as much as possible.
- Try to avoid plastics for storing or heating food.
- Make sure you are on a good multivitamin and mineral supplement.
- Take a tablespoon of Carlson’s fish oil daily.
- Take 4-8 sprays of BODY DETOX nightly to protect against acquired chemical and heavy metal toxins.
Your thyroid is your energy line. Take good care of it.
