How do I get from where I am to where I want to go?
Let's tackle one problem at a time.
While it may not be true of everyone, for me, abrupt change is easier than gradual change. Abstinence is easier than temperance, as they say.
The most important changes to make for improving your health are dietary. The first is the hardest:
Go cold turkey off sugar, refined flours (white bread and white rice), and all artificial sweeteners.
In about a week you'll get over it.
Sugar and refined carbs are the curses that are more health damaging than any other factor in our society.
They cause ALL of the major ills our time. Sugars lead to high insulin, which leads to high triglycerides, high cholesterol, heart attacks, strokes, immune suppression, obesity, high blood pressure, and cancer.
Pure and simple, it's the sugar. I use the term "cold turkey" because it may feel like you're coming off heroin. Just like in the movies, you'll be grouchy, depressed, feeling like your best friend just left you, sleepy, agitated, in sweats, but you will get over it. Within a couple of days, apples and pears will taste very sweet and become your new friends.
You will lose weight.
Your energy will soar.
Your health will improve.
Work on this from now until next Wednesday. See if you can do it. Next week, lesson two. – D.I. Minkoff, MD
