Common heartburn drugs linked to hip fractures
A recent large study of nearly 150,000 people published in the Journal of the American Medical Association showed that people over 50 years old who took drugs like Nexium, Prevacid, and Pepcid for a year or more had a 44% increased chance of hip fracture. These drugs block stomach acid which is needed to absorb calcium and protein and that leads to brittle bones and increased fracture rate.
This should not be taken lightly. As much as $23 billion dollars a year are spent on these drugs. Not only is the rate of fracture greater but other gastrointestinal problems can occur including diarrhea, lack of absorption of other minerals, and bacterial and parasitic infections.
One of the advantages of the amino acid supplement BioBuilde is that it is a protein source that does not require stomach acid for digestion. Our experience has shown men and women who take it are able to maintain their levels of body protein for better health.
