New Years thoughts....Do your friends predict your future?

What kind of people do you hang around With?

There is an old adage that says "Show me your friends and I'll show you your future!"

It's all about your level of acceptance. Do you go with those that inspire you or those that allow your lazy side to run your life? Where do you set your standards? What is your responsibility level? For health? For family? For behavior? For morals? For friendship?

Look at your friends. They may tell the tale.

Take a moment and do an inventory. Do they support your goals? Do they help you raise your own bar or lower it?

Recent studies have shown that if you spend most of your time with fat people you are likely to be fat.

If your friends drink too much you likely to do that too. Spend time with fit people and you're likely to be fit. Spend time with honest people and your likely to be honest too.

Are your five closest friends pursuing personal goals that you can admire? Do they support you so that you can aspire and reach your dreams and goals too?

When I entered Medical School I was the first foreign language major to be accepted to the University of Wisconsin . It was difficult for the first few months as I didn't have the science background of the rest of the class. I befriended the guy who was getting the best grades on every test. In a short while we got to be good friends.

I watched how hard he worked and prepared for exams and practicals. How he stayed in the library late every night, and did what he did. It worked.

We both ended up in the top eight in our class of 125 students and graduated Magna Cum Laude and were asked to become members of a very elite Honor Medical Society. I had the potential but never would have been able to achieve it without a friend who inspired and taught and challenged me.

All I did was apply the rule show me your friends and I'll show you your future. Are you applying it?

If not you can.

The group is stronger than the individual. Surround yourself with a group that demands your goals come true.

What are your health goals for 2008?

What is your ideal weight?

Do you have the energy you want?

Are you drinking too much?

Is your cholesterol too high?

Blood pressure too high?

Are you on prescription medicines that are an excuse for an unhealthy lifestyle?

Included in your circle of friends could be your doctor. Is he healthy? Is he a good example? What does he eat? How many medications is he on? Can he lead you to better health?

Prescription drugs are the third leading cause of death in the U.S. Is your doctor friend doing every thing he can do avoid them and educate you into making the lifestyle choices that will result in your optimum health, or have you settled for someone who agrees that drugs are the way to a healthy body?

Choose your friends wisely. They are your future.
