Does freeway dirt affect your health?
You live near a freeway or highway. The cars and trucks drive by and the roadside dirt gets circulated into the air as they drive by. The dust is breathed by many even miles away. This dust is made up of tiny metal particles of lead from tire weights and platinum from catalytic converters and rubber particles from tires. This is in addition to the effects of car exhaust and diesel fumes.
Diesel fumes contain hundreds of different compounds 40 of which are carcinogenic according to the EPA. These include arsenic, benzene, formaldehyde, nickel and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons.
