Are you meeting your choline needs?

The B vitamins include many forms of nutrients that are essential to good health.

One of these B vitamins is called Choline. The body does not make enough to meet its needs and so this must come in as a supplement or as part of food sources. Many people are on diets that are deficient in choline and so can become deficient in this essential nutrient.

Choline is utilized in the body to:

•  Protect the liver. Choline deficiency can cause oxidative stress in the liver, liver cancer (in animals), and damage to liver cells. Lack of choline can increase a person's sensitivity to cancer causing chemicals.

•  Choline can reduce the amount of HOMOCYSTEINE in the blood. Elevated levels of Homocysteine (an amino acid) in the blood can cause heart disease and osteoporosis.

•  May prevent DNA DAMAGE. Choline supplies the body with methyl groups that are used to protect DNA from oxidative damage.

•  Choline is essential for the proper function of all cell membranes. These membranes control what comes into and out of cells.

•  Choline protects the fetus from spinal bifida protects fetal brain tissue.

•  Choline promotes the production of acetylcholine - a key neurotransmitter in brain and memory function. Lack of acetylcholine has been linked to Alzheimer's disease and dementia. Nerve transmission is dependent on adequate levels of acetylcholine also.

Suggested dietary levels of dietary intake of Choline are in the range of:

•  550 milligrams (mg) per day for adult men

•  425 mg/day for adult women

•  450 mg/day for pregnant women

•  550 mg/day for nursing women

Best food sources of choline are:

•  Beef liver (3 ounces): 355 mg

•  Wheat germ (1 cup): 172 mg

•  Egg Yolk (1 large): 126 mg

•  Atlantic cod (3 ounces): 71 mg

•  Beef (3 ounces): 66 mg

•  Broccoli (1 cup, cooked): 62 mg

•  Peanut butter (2 Tbs): 20 mg

•  BODYHEALTH COMPLETE AND BODYHEALTH COMPLETE + DETOX contain 140MG PER DAILY DOSE

As you can see, Choline is an essential nutrient for many aspects of health. Be sure to get your daily supply. Adding BODYHEALTH COMPLETE (or BODYHEALTH COMPLETE + DETOX) to your diet can ensure that you meet these requirements plus the benefits of the best multivitamin, mineral and antioxidant supplement made.
