Does a high C Reactive Protein mean?
C Reactive protein is a blood test that is elevated when there is inflammation with in the blood vessels of the body. A high value means that the risk of cardiovascular disease is much higher. In fact elevated levels correlate with a 3 fold increased risk of heart attacks.
CRP is measured by a simple blood test. It should be requested as Cardiac CRP or ultra sensitive CRP for the best results.
A CRP less than 1.0 mg/L = Low risk for Cardiovascular disease
CPR 1.0-2.9 mg/L = Intermediate risk
CRP greater than 3.0 mg/L = high risk.
There are other causes of inflammation in the body, so infection, illness, or arthritis flare ups can also raise the CRP levels. Your doctor can tell you whether the test would be helpful or not.
I think it is worth doing the test yearly so that one can follow whether there is an elevation or not.
For those with a high CRP what should be done?
Organic diet without refined grains or sugar.
Regular exercise
Stop smoking
Daily sunshine or vitamin D supplementation
Look carefully for sources of low grade inflammation or infection such as infected teeth, periodontal disease, or sinus disease.
Fiber supplementation so that total daily fiber intake is at least 30 grams per day.
Omega 3 fish oils 1 tablespoon daily. (natural anti-inflammatory)
Vascuzyme (digestive proteolytic enzyme) 5-8 twice daily. (natural anti-inflammatory)
Avoid all transfats as they seem to elevate CRP.
Get enough sleep.
Chelation therapy can reduce CRP
Take BodyHealth Complete or BodyHealth Complete + Detox to make sure that all essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants are being taken.
CRP is an important marker as it may signal inflammation when there are no obvious symptoms present. This inflammation can lead to blocked arteries which then can cause heart attacks and strokes.
Most people with the above lifestyle changes can normalize their CRP values and diminish their risk of cardiovascular disease.
