Why diuretics bring body problems
Diuretics like Lasix are among the most popular remedies for controlling blood pressure. Their intended purpose is to reduce the amount of body water so that the heart has less volume of fluid to pump around. But along with removal of free water, significant amounts of minerals are lost in the process and the body becomes depleted of calcium, potassium, sodium, magnesium and other essential nutrients. Recent research reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine, shows that this can cause significant bone loss in men who take them. In fact, older men who used the drugs had 3X's the bone loss compared to those not using these medications. This puts them at very high risk for osteoporosis and fractures.
